Casinos to open retail sportsbooks in Ontario

Ontario Lottery and Gaming’s casino service providers Caesars and Great Canadian will launch sportsbooks in the Canadian province.

Canada.- Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) has announced that its casino service providers Caesars Entertainment and Great Canadian Entertainment are preparing to launch sportsbooks at certain locations in the Canadian province. The physical sportsbooks will be in addition to the more than 20 online sports betting sites that have launched in Canada’s most populous province since April.

Duncan Hannay, president and CEO of OLG, said: “We are proud to have worked closely with the gaming industry and our partners in the Ontario government on this next phase of growth in Ontario’s gaming market.

“Sportsbooks in casinos will offer a diverse and integrated entertainment experience for players, give our service providers a stake in the sports gaming market, and bring more jobs and economic benefits to host communities.”

Ontario’s quarterly igaming handle hits CA$6bn

iGaming Ontario (iGO) has released its second public report of market performance since the province’s online gaming market launched on April 4. The report covers the second full quarter of market operations, ending on September 30. Revenue for the period was CA$267m from wagers of $6.04bn.

That makes the handle a 48 per cent increase from the previous quarter’s CA$4.07bn. Revenue was up 65 per cent from CA$162m. Ontario’s online gambling market opened for business on April 4.
