Sports betting moves forward in New Hampshire
The Senate Finance Committee sent a sports betting bill to the New Hampshire Senate after granting an “ought to pass with amendment.”
US.- Sports betting legalisation continues to advance in the US and New Hampshire may be soon to join in. A Senate committee granted a bill an “ought to pass with amendment” and sent it to the floor for approval.
The proposed legislation will be voted by the Senate and, if passed, sent to the House for further approval. Representatives will look into any changes and then – potentially – send it to Governor Chris Sununu.
An amendment to the bill covers mobile sports betting in New Hampshire and sets a maximum of five operators. They would be responsible for age verification software to ensure that only players over the age of 18 could gain access. Furthermore, they must cover geolocation software to keep the business within the state.
The New Hampshire Lottery Commission would set wager limits for periodical amounts. It would do so either independently or through an agent. Furthermore, it would select those operators that could turn the most revenue for the state.
The House’s vote
In a 269-82 vote, the House recently decided to approve sports betting in New Hampshire. However, the original piece of legislation was amended. Should it pass, punters would be allowed to bet on sports at retail, online and mobile venues. Representatives are expectant on what Senators decide, to see whether they get to vote on it again. New Hampshire legislators believe that sports betting has a good chance to be legalised. According to proponents of the bill pushing its regulation, Governor Chris Sununu’s support gives the motion a boost.
