US.- Demolition has begun in order to make way for the $500m Caesars Virginia casino at the former Dan River Schoolfield site. The demolition will be completed in several months.

The finishing building from the former industrial complex will be removed at a later stage as the project’s contractor and engineers are evaluating the best method for removal.

Mark Schlang, senior director of design and construction with Caesars Entertainment said: “Full demolition will take seven to nine months based on knowledge of current conditions.”

The casino will feature 500 hotel rooms, a state-of-the-art casino floor, a Caesars Sportsbook, World Series of Poker Room, plus restaurant and entertainment offerings. The project is expected to generate revenue of $5-6m a year for the city.
