Wynn assesses where to land in Japan
CEO Matt Maddox assured Wynn Resorts is eyeing Japan and considers multiple cities to develop a casino in the country.
Japan.- The casino industry will soon land in Japan and most international companies have put their eyes on the archipelago. As the government has yet to determine the specific locations, Wynn says it’s looking at multiple cities in Japan.
According to Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox, the company is considering more than one location for its potential project.
“We are looking at multiple cities,” Maddox told US TV channel CNBC. “So, we’re not just saying we’re going only after one city.”
Furthermore, though he didn’t identify it, he said the consortium that’ll work with Wynn Resorts would be a top competitor.
“We’ve been working on this for eight years,” Maddox said about the company’s chances against competitors. “We typically like to play a little more low-profile,” he said.
“What I love about our strategy in Japan is we are known as the high-quality operator. What we deliver is excellence,” he assured.
Largest IR in the world
Wynn Resorts had already announced it will open an office in Japan but further details were revealed in March. According to Wynn Resorts Development Japan (an affiliate company for the operator in the country) president Chris Gordon, they want to build the largest integrated resort (IR) in the whole world either in the capital city, in Yokohama or Osaka.
“The current projections are that it would be the largest Integrated Resort in the world,” Gordon said, as quoted by AGBrief. He also explained that the initial investment for such a development would be between €7 billion and €8 billion, with annual operating expenses as high as €1.2 billion.
The official further detailed that Wynn Resorts is seeking to land a partnership deal with at least one major local company to gain additional credibility, and announced the project would employ between 11,000 and 16,700 people.
