Wynn and Genting settle on design claim

Both operators have agreed a settlement on a dispute in which Wynn claimed Genting had copied its appearance in the Resorts World Las Vegas.

US.- Genting Group’s Resorts World Las Vegas had sparked controversy in the US as Wynn Resorts had accused the operator of copying its own resorts’ designs. However, both companies have agreed a settlement and Genting will make several changes to its project before it gets completed.

Wynn had filed the trademark infringement complaint with a federal Las Vegas court and claimed the upcoming venue’s design was too similar to the company’s venues. “Resorts World Las Vegas’ initial design had elements which had similarity to our resorts in Las Vegas, Macau and Boston,” Wynn Resorts CCO Michael Weaver explained but asserted: “The new design changes offered by Genting will resolve the concerns we expressed about the similarity of the design.”

Michael Levoff, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and Development at Genting, assured: “While the company believes the design to have had differences with Wynn and Encore’s once fully realised, after further consideration and conversations with the Wynn team, we have directed our design team to make several changes that will clearly differentiate the two properties.”
