William Hill approached by US sports teams

US sports teams are seeking sponsorship deals with the company in order to profit from the newly-legalised sports betting industry.

US.- William Hill has revealed that major US sports teams have approached the company to strike sponsorship deals after the US Supreme Court concluded that the ban on sports betting was unconstitutional.

PASPA, the act that prohibited states from offering sports betting, was struck down by the Supreme Court last month, and according to William Hill, sports teams are seeking deals with companies in order to profit from the industry.

Joseph Asher, chief executive of William Hill US, told Reuters that he has received phone calls and emails from sports franchises to consider sponsorship deals: “The leagues and the teams are interested in doing commercial deals,” he said.

However, Major League Baseball (MLB) officials have informed teams and networks through a memo that they’re not allowed to accept advertising from sports betting operators. The memo, signed by Dan Halem, deputy commissioner and chief legal officer, says: “We have been informed that club television and radio rights holders are being approached by sportsbooks to place advertising/enhancements. Pursuant to MLB policy, clubs must inform their rights holders that they are presently not permitted to accept such advertising,” ROI NJ reported.
