West Virginia discusses sports betting revenue
The president of the West Virginia Gaming and Racing Association said the situation is a “chaos”.
US.- John Cavacini, president of the West Virginia Gaming and Racing Association, said the current situation related to where the sports betting revenue goes is a “chaos.” The deadline for the lottery to announce modifications to the current regulations, which are temporary, is October 7.
The gaming authority said that they are evaluating the possibility that state lottery officials — who regulate sports betting in West Virginia — “will try to impose a special fee that would be paid to operators of various sports leagues.” And added: “We don’t think that there is a legal way that the Lottery could supersede the Legislature,” Cavacini said. “But I am convinced they are going to try.”
Sports betting has been cleared to be legalised after the Supreme Court ruled that the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) that was in place was unconstitutional. However, there are still many key factors to be taken into consideration for states that haven’t passed their own bills.
