Washington sports betting bill reaches Senate

Sports betting bill clears Senate Committee and heads to the Senate floor for final vote.

US.- Legal sports betting has taken a major step forward in the US state of Washington after a Senate Committee approved a bill to legalise the activity and sent it to the Senate floor to be voted on.

If passed, the Bill would allow the state’s 29 tribal casinos to offer sports betting as well as bets on Olympic events and eSports. Gambling on games involving local colleges would be prohibited.

During the committee stage, Representative Drew Stokesbary, said: “This is a middle ground. It permits adults who are responsible to engage in an activity that doesn’t harm other people.

“But it doesn’t make it so prevalent or so pervasive in our society that we as a legislature have to worry about the morality and ethics of that.”
