Wakayama governor insists on casino resort

The governor wants its city to feature a casino resort in order to attract more tourists.

Japan.- Japan has been debating different legal measures to legislate and regulate the upcoming casino industry, and different cities are expressing their desire to operate a casino resort. Wakayama Governor Yoshinobu Nisaka is now stepping up the bidding efforts in order to attract more tourists to the city.

While Osaka is the front-runner to obtain one of the three casino licences that will be available in Japan, neighbouring Wakayama also wants to be in the list of cities willing to operate a casino resort. Nisaka proposed at a public symposium in Wakayama that entry to any casino in the prefecture by Japanese be restricted, but if customers met certain requirements, they would be permitted to enter.

He also proposed issuing them a cash card to use in those facilities with an upper limit. “Money used from this system could fund support policies for dealing with problem gamblers,” Nisaka said.
