State-owned Veikkaus invests in online casino games

The Finnish company is set to invest up to €8 million to refurbish its online casino operations.

Finland.- Finland’s state-owned company Veikkaus has revealed that it is investing up to €8 million to add new online casino games to its portfolio. This is part of an ongoing attempt to refurbish its operations and meet the industry’s growing demand for online gambling.

Veikkaus is currently the only company to provide gambling services in the country. This comprises both brick-and-mortar facilities and online services. However, current regulations in Finland don’t really prevent foreign companies from offering their services to local players.

The state-run operator decided to push against the illegal operators by refurbishing its businesses and upgrading the offering. That is why Veikkaus decided to invest in online casino games.

New online casino games are part of a strategy to create a product competitive enough to draw Finnish players and keep them away from unlicensed foreign operators.

Jan Hagelberg, head of casino games at Veikkaus, talked about the addition of new games. The executive said that the new titles, mostly online slots, will go live in the upcoming months. The €8 million will upgrade the company’s online gaming content.
