Sudbury council approves casino complex site plan
The project that expects to be opened in 2020 obtained the approval from the Greater Sudbury council.
Canada.- A final integrated site plan for a future enlarged casino and hotel development in Sudbury obtained the approval from the City of Greater Sudbury council late last week. The gaming complex will be operated by Gateway Casinos and Entertainment.
The first phase of the Kingsway Entertainment District is set to feature an event centre owned by the City of Greater Sudbury, a gaming venue operated by Gateway, a hotel complex and restaurants, as well as an outdoor festival square. The approval of the project expected to open in April 2020 allows city staff to relocate the Kingsway site, come up with a financial plan and move towards the design-build RFP in the first four months of 2018, local media reported.
Whilst Gateway Casinos has already confirmed its intention to invest US$60 million for the gaming complex, the city’s investment in the arena, roads and other infrastructure parts is expected to be US$100 million. “It will benefit generations of residents as a choice destination for large concerts and sporting events,” said Mayor Brian Bigger in a statement.
