Sky TV to limit gambling ads

The broadcaster announced it will restrict gambling ads to one per commercial break to “protect the vulnerable”.

UK.- Gambling advertising continues to be a hot topic all across the globe and some companies are already trying to adjust their operations to address it. That’s why Sky TV has announced it will limit the number of gambling ads it shows per commercial break in order to counter the increasing number seen over recent months.

Stephen van Rooyen, the broadcaster’s UK chief branded the number of gambling ads as “deafening” and explained they’ll be reduced (including during live football) in order to protect “children and the vulnerable”. He also praised a campaign by local media outlet Daily Mail against the explosion of the segment’s advertising and said only one will be shown per commercial break.

“It’s a great step forward. It’s a response to our customers and a response to the Daily Mail’s campaign to dial it down,” Mr van Rooyen said and stated it will cost Sky TV money but “it’s the right and proportional thing to do.”

“Our customers are worried about gambling ads on TV, and we understand their concerns,” he asserted.
