Rhode Island to offer sports betting
A local casino is expected to start accepting bets on sports in December.
US.- Twin River Casino in Lincoln is set to debut its sports betting lounge in December, paving the way for statewide operations in Rhode Island, which was one of the first in the United States to regulate the segment after the Supreme Court lifted the federal ban on sports betting.
Mike Barlow, head of operations for the company that owns both casinos in Rhode Island, said: “I see folks coming from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.” The facility is expected to add a sports betting lounge with screens showing live games and odds from all over the country.
The new market was expected on October 1, but the date was later pushed to the end of November, and now the facility estimates that December will see the opening of the lounge. Lawmakers approved sports betting at the Twin River Casino, and the state budget estimated US$23 million from the modality into the fiscal 2018-2019 budget. However, as the launch has been pushed, analysts cut the total by US$12 million, according to new numbers from the Revenue Estimating Conference.
