If approved, Peninsula Pacific will develop a $250m resort.

US.- Peninsula Pacific (P2E) has named its proposed casino in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, as Camellia Bay Resort and Casino. The company says it received more than 7,000 suggestions after it asked locals to come up with a name for the proposed $250m development.

The project, which includes a 250-room hotel, would cover about 50 acres of a 100-acre plot of open land east of the Blind Tiger restaurant.

However, there are several regulatory hurdles to be cleared, not least the fact that the parish voted against casinos in a 1996 referendum. Riverboat gambling is expected to be put to voters at election in November.

If approved, the casino would pay 5 per cent of its gaming revenue to the parish, according to the company. Gaming revenue is projected at around $7.5m a year. The company has said construction would create more than 1,000 jobs.
