The company wants to expand its operations and open a mini-casino in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.

US.- Parx Casino is currently planning a mini-casino that would open in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. The category four casino would bring 500 slot machines and 40 electronic games, a sports bar and sportsbook.

The company hosted a meeting at the Shippensburg University Conference Center, where local citizens weighed on the proposal and expressed their acceptance and opposition. The casino would be located off of Interstate 81, but some local citizens believe it would increase traffic and crime.

On the other hand, the proposal has gathered support from a lot of people. Supporters think that 320 jobs and almost US$2 million a year in tax would be great for Shippensburg. “This is one of the category four satellite casinos that are allowed now in the commonwealth,” said Doug Harbach, with the Pennaylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).

“It will have up to 750 slot machines and 40 table games, a sports book, restaurant options. So, it’s going to be quite a facility and ought to provide a good bit of economic generation within the community in the area,” added Harbach.

Over two dozen people signed-up to speak at the meeting. The PGCB will consider the information, along with the one from Parx Casino and make a final decision. If approved, the facility could open by the end of 2020.
