Osaka officials assure IR safety
Two of the highest officials in the Prefecture have guaranteed that key infrastructure is suitable for IRs to be developed in the area.
Japan.- The race for an integrated resort (IR) bid in Japan is on after the Legislature passed the required Laws to regulate the segment. As Osaka pushes to secure its own venue, some concerns were raised after the recent Typhoon which hit the Prefecture, but high ranked officials have reassured the safety of the region to host IRs.
Both Governor Ichiro Matsui and Osaka Mayor Hirofumi Yoshimura chose social media to guarantee that key infrastructure is suitable to host casino resorts should they win an IR bid. “Yumeshima island is quite safe. It has quite a high ground level,” Governor Matsui said and added: “The authorities have been fixing and implementing the countermeasures to improve Kansai International airport.”
Mayor Yoshimura also highlighted that Yumeshima will host the Kansai Expo 2025: “Yumeshima is supposed to host the Expo 2025 and IR. It is completely safe and not to be flooded at all, as it has ground 9 metres higher than sea level,” he said.
The Typhoon’s impact on the area had Japan Communist Party official Masao Nakamura questioning an IR development at Yumeshima: “Why put an expo and a casino at such a place?” he had tweeted.
