Online companies in Greece experience revenue increase
The financial results for the first six months of the year were driven by the 2018 World Cup.
Greece.- The 24 companies in Greece that work in the online industry reported turnover of €3.2 billion and gross gaming revenues (GGR) of €182.8 million for the six month period between January and June 2018.
The positive results were driven by the 2018 FIFA World Cup that took place between June 14 and July 15, which also helped online markets in other countries to report revenue increases. The 24 enterprises in the country are currently working under provisional licences, after the country announced its plans to revamp the segment and opened a new licensing regime.
While the country still needs to address some issues in the process that might end up discouraging operators, it seems like the online industry is reporting positive results: over the course of 2017, the 24 operators posted turnover of €5.2 billion and GGR of €280.6 million, Ekathimerini revealed.
Turnover for the first six months of the current year was up 24% when compared to last year, while GGR increased 30%. Moreover, the companies paid to the state approximately ‹98.2 million in 2017, while they paid €64 million between January and June 2018.
