Off-duty casino staff to be banned from gaming floors

The Macanese Legislative Assembly has passed a bill to ban casino workers from entering gaming floors after work.

Macau.- Casino workers will soon be banned from gaming floors after their work hours as a bill to enforce the prohibition has been approved by the Legislative Assembly (LA). The piece of legislation had been under consideration for over a year, as the government launched a public consultation in September 2017.

The recently approved bill amends the current Law 10/2012, which regulates casino attendance. It sets rules and restrictions for all the different categories of people who enter, work or play in gaming halls in the region.

Until now, casino employees were not allowed to gamble in casinos run by their employer but could enter other venues which belonged to different operators. However, once the current amendments are enforced, they’ll be banned from all casinos in the area, excepting during the first three days of the Chinese New Year period, during which they’ll be allowed into local casinos not run by their employers.

The ban will affect 54,000 employees from gaming and junket operators and is expected to take effect one year after the bill’s promulgation.
