New York soon to launch sports betting
The NYGC voted to aprove sports betting regulations and triggered a two-month period after which the segment may launch.
US.- Sports betting may soon expand into the state of New York as well as it rises over the US. The New York Gaming Commission (NYGC) voted to approve the segment’s regulations and may allow it into local casinos after a 60-day public comment period (starting last Monday) is completed.
The segment continues to grow in the country and – should everything go as planned – all four private casinos and Indian-operated venues will be cleared to jump in the business. However, rules won’t apply to mobile betting, which will remain illegal in the state.
Many states have already legalised the segment but New York is still struggling to set the rules for it, nearly eight months after the Supreme Court of the US struck down PASPA. That’s why the NYGC cleared (after a thorough debate) that sports betting will be legal at venues with an approved sports wagering lounge, where customers will be able to bet. Within those lounges, automated ticket systems would also be allowed.
Should this push ultimately succeed, the segment is expected to be ready for launch as soon as next April. That way, the state’s gaming venues will be able to compete with the already regulated New Jersey sports betting market.
