New York could reopen casinos this week
The governor of New York state said there would be “positive news” for casinos this week.
US.- Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York state, has told press that there will be an announcement this week on the state’s plan for the reopening casinos.
The state’s four commercial casinos and 11 racinos have been shut since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Staff members staged protests last week at several properties in opposition to the continued closures and lack of state guidance.
Cuomo said he empathised with workers, saying: “I understand their point. I understand the economic reality, I understand the feeling that you see other things, other places opening up but you still can’t get back to work.”
Despite his concern, he said he was concerned about how casinos would carry out social distancing.
Casinos have already formulated plans for when the state allows them to reopen, including screening staff and customers upon entry, and eliminating some slot machines to allow greater distancing.
