US.- The Cordish Companies is to open its first retail casino in Pennsylvania this week, after a series of soft launches.
Live! Casino Pittsburgh will officially open tomorrow (Tuesday), becoming the first of five satellite casinos that have been approved by regulators.
Baltimore-based The Cordish Companies invested $150m into the refurbishment of the former Bon-Ton department store in Westmoreland Mall to turn it into a casino.
Company executives hope to capitalise on Christmas foot traffic in the mall during the first few weeks of the casino’s operations.
The property is spread across two floors and contains 30 gaming tables, 750 slot machines, a FanDuel sportsbook and dining and drinking services.
FanDuel Group and the Cordish Companies announced their strategic partnership to bring FanDuel’s DFS and sports betting operations to the latter’s Live! Casino and Entertainment Districts properties throughout the US last year.
The new casino is part of a gambling expansion initiative in Pennsylvania which allowed the creation of a series of satellite casinos. These smaller casinos can feature 300 to 750 slot machines and up to 40 table games.
Live! Casino it would recruit more than 500 new employees for the venue despite the pandemic.
