Nebraska pro-casinos group closer to its goal

“Keep the Money in Nebraska” aims to open casinos in the state to keep Nebraskans gamblers from going to other states.

US.- The pro-casinos  group, Keep the Money in Nebraska, is doing its best to make the July deadline and getting a gambling referendum on the November ballot.

Keep the Money in Nebraska focuses its efforts in amending the Constitution to allow casinos, establishing a board to regulate and license them and determining how to collect taxes and distribute that money to the state and local governments.

Governor Pete Ricketts and the anti-casinos group “Gambling with the Good Life” oppose the proposal.

“Our measures would allow for casinos at licensed race tracks in Nebraska, horse racing tracks. The myth is that this would allow casinos everywhere, that’s just not true,” said Scott Lautenbaugh, spokesman for the group. “If the social ills are caused by the casinos, why are Nebraska’s bankruptcy rates, divorce rates, etc. higher than the surrounding states that have casinos? It seems like we already have these social ills here. We’re just missing out on all the revenue.”
