US.- The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has received support from 63 lotteries and 53 non-lottery global organisations to promote its 2022 Gift Responsibly campaign, now in its fifth year. Participants will join NCPG to raise awareness about the risks of buying lottery tickets for children.

The 113 organisations will educate communities about the risk of childhood exposure to gambling and promote responsible gambling practices. NCPG research showed that exposure to gambling in early life increases the development of problem gambling tendencies as an adult.

The campaign includes media commitments for TV, radio social media, digital advertising, in-store signage, or retailer training.  All activities are designed to promote the campaign message that lottery products are never suitable gifts for children.

NCPG executive director Keith Whyte said: “Youth problem gambling has emerged as a significant and growing public health issue. We are thrilled to have such support from the lottery community, as well as the non-lottery participants, for the 2022 Gift Responsibly Campaign as we work to minimize gambling-related harm.”

In October, the National Council on Problem Gambling awarded $120,000 in funding to three organisations in support of problem gambling prevention programmes. The Agility Grant initiative funds problem gambling prevention through support from the National Football League Foundation with additional support from FanDuel.
