Mississippi kicks off year two of sports betting
After being one of the first states in the US to legalise and regulate sports betting, Mississippi is getting ready for its second year of operations.
US.- Sports betting is on track to become a massive force in the United States, and while some states are still discussing possible regulations, others are already enjoying the benefits of it. Mississippi is one of those states, as it is getting ready to start its second year of operations.
Ameristar SportsBook Manager Keith Hardy said that they have received gamblers from Louisiana, Alabama and Texas since the state started its sports betting operations last year. Hardy said that football is the most popular sport: “We take in more bets on football than all the other sports combined,” he said.
“The number one thing they know is who they like and as long as they can come in, pick the team they like, we have an incredible staff here at Ameristar that can explain all the different types of wagers,” said Ameristar Vice President and General Manager Gerad Hardy. “Real popular… folks are coming down and saying I want to bet who’s going to win the Super Bowl or I want to bet who’s going to win the National Championship or I just want to bet how many games my team’s going to win.”
Moreover, the general manager said that year one was an introduction, therefore they are excited for the second year of sports betting operations in Mississippi. “We think our guests are getting more and more used to the opportunity to be able to bet on those games. So we’re expecting for year two to be even better.”
