MGM lands in Osaka

The casino operator has opened a local office in Osaka and joined rival companies in the push for an IR licence.

Japan.- The Japanese government passed casino legislation last year but has yet to determine which companies will develop the much awaited integrated resorts (IR). That’s why MGM has landed in Osaka, opening a local office to continue to work in the country and in an effort to getaheadof the competition.

MGM chairman and CEO Jim Murren had been attempting to promote the company in Japan, much before the opening party held for its local office. He has already been contacting government officials to improve the operator’s chances for an IR in Osaka, which has been described as its primary focus.

According to Mr Murren, MGM is already making progress through meetings with Japanese corporations, with whom they have discussed their plans for an IR. He also explained that MGM is ready to begin working to develop a venue in Osaka, their preferred location in Japan, and said the company will help the authorities to win the IR bidding process.
