Massachusetts casinos report revenue of $96m for December

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has reported casino revenue figures for the last month of 2021.

US.- Massachusetts’s three casinos saw combined revenue of $95.6m in December, up from $88m in November and almost equalling October’s record revenue. According to the report from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission Encore Boston Harbor pulled in $62.4m, two-thirds of the statewide total.

December ranks as the second-best month for the Everett casino, which opened in June 2019, trailing only October 2021’s $62.8m haul. MGM Springfield, meanwhile, hit its highest monthly total since July 2021 with $22.2m in gaming revenue. MGM’s table games generated $5.53m, only the second time they have produced more than $5m in a month since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Slots generated $16.6m. 

Plainridge Park slots pulled in $11.05m in December. With a historic average payout of 92.16 per cent, the slots at Plainridge Park were the most player-friendly in the state. Encore had a payout percentage of 91.88 per cent and MGM’s slots averaged 91.56 per cent).

Casinos paid $26.56m were in tax and fees to the state. Encore paid $15.6m, MGM $5.55m and Plainridge Park paid $5.41m. Plainridge Park, a category 2 slots facility, is taxed on 49 per cent of GGR. MGM Springfield and Encore Boston Harbor, category 1 resort-casinos, are taxed on 25 per cent of GGR.

To date, the Commonwealth has collected approximately $971m in total taxes and assessments from PPC, MGM and Encore since the respective openings of each gaming facility.
