March Madness to draw 47 million American bettors, survey says
According to a survey commisioned by the American Gaming Association (AGA), the number of bettors to participate in the March Madness tournament will be similar to that of 2019.
US.- March Madness will draw more than 47 million bettors in the US, a survey from the American Gaming Association (AGA) says.
The number of bettors predicted for this year’s NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament is very similar to the tally from 2019, but the AGA’s survey finds a big difference in how people will bet: 17.8 million are expected to place a bet online and only 8.3 million at a physical sporstbook.
According to the figures, reported by Morning Consult for the AGA, the number of online bets will rise by 206 per cent from 2019 as 65.4 million more Americans in 13 jurisdictions have gained the opportunity to bet legally since the 2019 event.
AGA president and CEO Bill Miller said: “The sports betting landscape has changed dramatically since 2019 – and as a result, tournament betting has transformed. As consumers formerly limited to bracket contests now enjoy access to legal sportsbook options, they also plan to place traditional sports bets as March Madness returns.
“With more legal, regulated sports betting options than ever before, millions of customers now have safer ways to enjoy all the fun and suspense only March Madness provides.”
