Macau’s system to ban casino employees could be flawed

The technology used to identify off-duty casino workers in Macau would not be 100 per cent accurate.

Macau.- Gaming expert Ricardo Chi Sen Siu has commented that the bill from the local government to ban casino employees from entering venues outside of work hours could be flawed, as the technology to run facial ID on them would be less than 100 per cent accurate.

“Since it is almost impossible for an employer to detect where employees go after work, casinos may have to check IDs of the customers when they enter the gaming areas, but this may be quite time-consuming given the volume of customer flow in Macau today,” said Siu, who is an associate professor of Business Economics at the University of Macau.

Nevertheless, he believes that the technology could help enforce the ban, despite the fact that the technology is not accurate. MGM CEO Grant Bowie discussed the measure last week and said that it could infringe certain privacy issues for those individuals. “So we have much work to do with the government and we will need to understand how that will apply,” he said.
