Macau’s storm forces casinos to offer discounts
The Tycoon Hato has forced Macau’s biggest casinos and hotels to offer heavy discounts and help with restructuring.
Macau.- After the Typhoon Hato that hit the city last week, Macau operators are reportedly lowering their prices on room rates and offering discounts. MGM China Holdings Limited, MGM Resorts International and MS. Pansy Ho signed a collaborative pledge of US$3.7 million in order to rebuild Macau after the storm.
As AGBrief reported, Ms. Pansy Ho, co-chairperson & executive director of MGM China Holdings Ltd said: “The staff of MGM MACAU has been exceptional, contributing their time and efforts in the face of this challenge. We stand ready to utilize our resources in any manner we can for a swift and sustainable recovery of our local community.” The distribution of the agreement will be decided in the next few months with help of the government on Macau, which will decide where the money is needed.
Jim Murren, CEO of MGM Resorts International and chairperson of MGM China, said: “My condolences to the people of Macau on behalf of the entire MGM family. Our company has experienced and overcome similar challenges in the past and I pledge the resources of the entire MGM family to work for a complete recovery. From our experience this will take time, but MGM will be there all the way with the government and people of Macau.”
