Macau visitors up 4 pct in July

The city registered 3.03 million visitor arrivals during July, which means a 4 per cent improvement year-on-year.

Macau.- The Macanese Statistics and Census Service revealed that the Chinese territory posted a 4 per cent increase in visits as it reported 3.03 million arrivals during July. The improvement adds up to reports indicating that total non-gaming spending by visitors to the region had been sustained in the second quarter as tourism rose for said period.

The report showed that visitors from mainland China tallied 2.17 million, 7.6 per cent up year-on-year, while tourists under the Individual Visit Scheme (a special permit for independent travellers) grew 7 per cent to 1.06 million. In addition, it revealed that overnight and same-day visitors rose by 1.7 per cent and 6.8 per cent from July 2017 respectively, as the average length of stay of visitors in July was 1.3 days, up by 0.1 days year-on-year.

Accumulated visitor arrivals for the months to July 31st increased by 7.4 per cent in comparison to the same period from 2017 and reached 19.85 million. Chinese visitors from the mainland totalled 13.87 million of the visits (up 12.3 per cent).
