Macau casino revenue increases 12.5 pct in June

The growth during last month’s operations was driven by a solid demand from Chinese gamblers.

Macau.- According to information released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau on Sunday, gross gaming revenue (GGR) increased 12.5 per cent year-on-year in Macau to US$2.8 billion during June operations.

Macau’s gambling regulator numbers show that June’s results were the 23rd consecutive month of revenue growth in the gambling hub, after two five-year lows thanks to slow economic growth and a political crackdown that started in 2014. Official information shows that revenues increased to US$2.78 billion, even though the rise was lower than analysts expected (17 to 21 per cent growth).

While the year-on-year growth was higher than in May, when Macau reported a 12.1 per cent increase in revenues, it is still pretty far from March and April results, when a 27.6 and 22.2 per cent year-on-year growth respectively was reported. JP Morgan analysts had said in a memo during the last week of June that the World Cup would negatively impact the market performance.
