Kansas advances sports betting bill
Sports betting is one step closer to legalisation in Kansas as a Senate committee passed a bill that would allow the modality in the state.
US.- The Senate Committee on Federal and State Affairs of Kansas passed on Monday a bill that would legalise sports betting in the state. The legislative piece is now headed to the full Senate for debate and eventually a vote.
The bill establishes that the Kansas Lottery and the Gaming Commission would be in charge of overseeing all sports betting activity in the state. It also sets that records of all bets must be kept for at least 60 days in case a crime has been committed. Moreover, it sets that sports betting would be limited to people over 21.
Sports betting in Kansas would be available both in-person and through a mobile app. The bill says that the casinos and the government would take a 7% to 10% for each bet made in the state.
Republican Senator Bud Estes said: “It’s all new stuff to not only Kansas, but every other state except Nevada. For the rest of us, it’s brand new stuff.” He added that this is one step forward in what it’s likely to be a long process.
