India considers gaming regulation
India would allegedly discuss a comprehensive gaming regulation this year to fight illegal activities.
India.- Casino industry could be now legalised in India, according to local press. India is considering the option of becoming a legal market in Asia, in order to compete with potentially profitable local gaming hubs, such as Japan and the Philippines. The measure would only be focused on dismissing current illegal activities.
According to Asia Gaming Brief (AGBrief), the Law Commission has publicly stated its intentions to evaluate a comprehensive casino and gaming legislation in the country. Indian authorities are releasing several surveys to ask stakeholders and residents for their opinions and recommendations on the issue.
“The Commission would like to invite views and suggestions from all concerned – the stakeholders and the general public, with regard to legalizing betting and gambling, so as to arrive at a judicious opinion and make suitable suggestions and recommendations to the Government, which are balanced and protect the interests of the common man and the stakeholders alike,” stated the Indian Law Commission in an official report.
Legislators would evaluate betting and casino industries in the market. The statement continues: “Various media reports time and again point out that betting and gambling, though not legal in India, is practised across the country clandestinely.” And it concludes: “Strict rules against betting and gambling have not necessarily acted as a deterrent.”
