Greece’s Loutraki Casino could close

The gambling facility could face closure if it doesn’t pay salaries to its employees.

Greece.- Loutraki Casino, located in the seaside resort west of Athens, is under the spotlight as it has failed to pay its employees their salaries in time. There is currently a law in Greece that stipulates that if salaries are not paid within 30 days, the casino would have its licence suspended.

The law – voted earlier this year – establishes that the licence could be suspended for a couple of months, and if it happens on three successive occasions, the permit is permanently revoked, Ekathimerini reported. The Athens casino currently owes two and a half months of salaries to its employees and has only two more weeks to complete the payments.

The Labour Inspection Squad decided to visit the casino for an inspection and forwarded its findings to the local gambling regulator (EEEP), which will decide how to proceed, the news outlet revealed. The EEEP will discuss the situation at its next meeting, and the government has already notified its intention to keep the facility open as its closure will translate into the loss of jobs.
