French bettors double previous world cup wagers
Local regulator Arjel revealed that French players have bet €363 million over the group stage, more than double than the same period in 2014.
France.- The World Cup continues to see sports betting records shattered in several countries, and France isn’t the exception. Over the group stage, local punters wagered €363 million and, not only doubled what was bet by the same period on the previous tournament, but also was €73 million higher than the total €290 million bet on the whole event.
According to Arjel, sales of the Française des Jeux (FDJ) retail sport betting bussines posted €159 million, while the remaining €204 million was wagered on the 12 online sports betting operators. Furthermore, it detailed that, games where the French team was involved generated €39 million, but Brazil’s game against Switzerland topped any single-game wager amount as it reached €17 million.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup continues to push sports betting forward all across the globe and China recently revealed great results. According to official data, the segment is on track to reach US$7.5 billion by the end of the tournament.
The US$4 billion figure bet over the first two weeks of tournament amounts to nearly a quarter of what was bet during the full year 2017 and is 300 per cent higher than that reached at the same stage during the 2014 World Cup.
