Colorado prepares for sports betting
Casinos in Colorado will launch sports betting operations next year after voters cleared the segment to operate in the state last week.
US.- After voters approved the segment to operate in Colorado, casinos are getting ready to launch sports betting operations. Venues in Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek will launch their sportsbooks next year and began preparations for it.
It’s still unclear the specific timeline and regulations for it, but casinos won’t waste time.
Wildwood Casino Assistant General Manager Matt Andrighetti said: “We’re excited. We know that was a close vote and we really feel that this is something that’s going to be great for Colorado.”
The Colorado businessman was quoted by KOAANews5 saying “it’s really sports betting, wagering on different games.”
“We’re looking at different vendors to partner with. We’re looking at how we want to implement sports wagering. Part of the bill does authorize online wagering as well as in live betting so in the casino.”
Colorado passes the segment
Around 1.3 million people in Colorado voted last week on Proposition DD to legalise sports betting. While the vote was surprisingly close in a 51% to 49% margin, it is now the 19th state to legalise some form of sports betting.
Unofficial returns say that the vote ended up being 51% – 49% in favour of the sports betting ballot. This means that starting in May 2020, the 33 casinos in Colorado can offer in-person and online sports betting on professional, collegiate, motor and Olympic sports.
Economists in the state forecast sports betting to generate US$11 million in the state during the fiscal year 2020-21.
