China releases Crown employees
Chinese authorities released the remaining Crown Resorts employees that were still detained over gambling related crimes.
China.- Crown Resorts revealed during a filing earlier today that all the remaining employees that were still detained in China have been released. The Baoshan District Court confirmed the sentences back in June.
“The last of the 19 current and former employees of the Crown group who were detained in China have now been released,” said the company. Crown Resorts Executive Chairman John Alexander during the filing that the company was pleased that all its employees had been released and reunited with their families, as GGRAsia informed. Whilst the sentences varied between nine and ten months, sixteen of them have been released in the last few weeks, as they were arrested back in October and it represented time served. The Crown workers were also fined with a total of US$1.25 million, whilst three of the nineteen were released under bail when they were first arrested last year.
Jason O’Connor, executive VP for international VIP business, was the last employee released on Saturday: “Mr O’Connor is the last of three Australian Crown employees to be released following completion of their sentences,” confirmed Australia’s foreign minister Julie Bishop in an email statement to the Sydney Morning Herald.
