The hotel famous for associating with the glamour of Hollywood stars suffers, as do staff.

US.- Coronavirus is hitting hard all around the world and a lot of people are losing their jobs. The luxurious Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood also suffered the effects of the virus, firing nearly all its workers.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the hotel that has been associated with the glamour of the many of Hollywood stars abruptly fired most of its staff without severance pay and only a brief extension of health benefits.

“In the middle of this pandemic, I’m now unemployed and will soon lose health insurance for my entire family,” said Walter Almendarez, one of the workers fired.

“I have worked for Chateau Marmont for almost 23 years. It is completely unjust for the hotel to fire me and my coworkers without anything to keep us on our feet,” he added.

Hotels in California alone are projected to lose more than 125,000 jobs in the next few weeks, more than in any other state according to the American Hotel and Lodging Assn., a trade group for the country’s hotel industry.
