Casino turnover down in Greece

The industry suffered a reduction in the number of visitors and turnover during the first six months of the year.

Greece.- The end of the first six months of the year has brought reports of financial numbers all over the industry, and the nine casinos located in Greece reported that the number of visitors in that period decreased 2.3 per cent.

As local media ekathimerini.com reported, the nine casinos received 1.3 million visitors from January to June 2018, which represent a decrease of 2.3 per cent from the same six months last year. The only casinos that actually increased the number of visitors are the ones in Thessaloniki, Parnitha in Athens and Corfu.

Moreover, there was also a decline in turnover: the nine casinos reported bets amounting €740 million, or a 1.8 per cent decrease from the same period last year when casinos totalled €754 million. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached €116 million, also down from last year when gambling facilities totalled €120 million.
