Bolsonaro promotes privatisation in Brazil
President Jair Bolsonaro has formalised the inclusion of fixed-odds sports betting in Brazil’s National Privatisation Plan.
Brazil.- The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has signed Decree no. 10.467/2020, which formalises the inclusion of fixed-odds betting (sports betting) in Brazil’s Investment Societies Programme (PPI) and National Privatisation Plan.
According to the decree, a period will be set to analyse the mechanism for the granting of concessions through which the state will transfer business to private entities.
“The initiative contributes to expanding investment opportunities, stimulating the economy, improving income and generating jobs,” the government told iGaming Brazil.
The privatisation of fixed-odds betting already began a new chapter in Brazil with the appointment of a procurement planning committee last week. The committee, appointed by the Ministry of Economy’s Department of Administration and Logistics, will be in charge of deciding which specialist consultants to hire as advisors for the process.
The team comprises Martha Seillier (founding member of the committee), Robson Eneas de Oliveira, Alceu Justus Filho, Itamar de Carvalho Pereira, Altair Mendanha de Oliveira (specialist member) and André Cordeiro Lopes (administrative member).
