Brazil moves forward with privatisation of gambling
The Ministry of Economy has appointed the members of the committee that will look into hiring advisors for the privatisation.
Brazil.- The privatisation of fixed-odds betting has moved forwards in Brazil with the appointment of a procurement planning committee.
The committee, appointed by the Ministry of Economy’s Department of Administration and Logistics, will be in charge of analysing which specialist consultants to hire as advisors for the process.
The team comprises Martha Seillier (founding member of the committee), Robson Eneas de Oliveira, Alceu Justus Filho, Itamar de Carvalho Pereira, Altair Mendanha de Oliveira (specialist member) and André Cordeiro Lopes (administrative member).
After privatisation, revenues from fixed-odds lottery will belong to the private company that runs the service.
Deputy José Guimarães has questioned: “What is the point in giving the lottery to the private sector? The Caixa lotteries are profitable, efficient, and guarantee resources for education, sports, culture and basic sanitation.”
According to the Caixa, in 2019 they contributed US$1,100 million to social programmes.
