Billionaire buys Mardi Gras Casino in Florida

The Mardi Gras Casino and greyhound race track, located in Hallandale Beach, Florida, has been acquired by billionaire Jeffrey Soffer.

US.- The Soffer family already owned the Aventura Mall and the Fontainebleau Miami Beach but decided to further invest in the area as Jeffrey Soffer acquired the Mardi Gras Casino and greyhound racetrack in Hallandale Beach. The 55-year-old facility is located just outside Miami and has a vast gaming offer.

The deal for the 36.2-acre site was completed for US$12.5 million, as the Investment Corporation of South Florida transferred its rights to 831 Federal Highway Acquisition, managed by Soffer in Aventura. In order to complete the transaction, Soffer got provided a US$19.5 million mortgage by Florida Community Bank.

Formerly known as the Hollywood Greyhound Track, the venue opened in 1963 but, in 2006, the Mardi Gras casino opened within a 278,124-square-foot space. The facility has 1,100 slot machines, restaurants, bars and many other amenities.

The poker room is currently the only certain offering in the venue, as the casino floor is undergoing repair work after hurricane Irma in 2007. Furthermore, the future of the racetrack could be in jeopardy as a referendum may strike greyhound racing down.
