BGC welcomes UK’s DCMS appointment

The UK Prime Minister appointed a new DCMS leadership and the BGC has voiced its support to the new role.

UK.- The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has issued a new statement in relation to the new appointment of the DCMS. Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced new leaders through a cabinet rearrangement and named Oliver Dowden MP as Secretary of State for the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Following the appointment, the Chief Executive of the Betting and Gaming Council, Michael Dugher, said: “We welcome Oliver Dowden’s appointment. He has a formidable reputation in Westminster and Whitehall and we look forward to working closely with the new Secretary of State and the DCMS team as the Government’s Review of the Gambling Act gets underway.”

Dowden has already served as Paymaster General and Minister for the Cabinet Office since July 2019. He was also Parliamentary Secretary at the Cabinet Office prior to that. He takes over Nicky Morgan’s job, who is now the country’s Culture Secretary.

The BGC highlighted Morgan’s contribution to the industry and said that she has done an excellent job in her time as Secretary of State.

“The BGC is a new standards body, committed to making big changes, and we are determined to set the highest standards in betting and gaming to ensure a safe, fair and enjoyable place for the millions of people who enjoy a flutter,” added the industry body.
