BC Hard Rock workers end strike

After a deal reached with the employer, more than 400 workers are set to return to work.

Canada.- The B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU) announced on Monday that members voted in favour of reaching a new agreement with Coquitlam’s Hard Rock Casino, and ended a 10-week strike.

The deal means that hundreds of unionised workers will come back to work at the casino after walking off the job on May 11th when talks with casino executives were interrupted. “On behalf of every member of the BCGEU, I want to congratulate the Hard Rock workers and their bargaining committee,” BCGEU president Stephanie Smith said in a press release.

Smith said that the union is proud of the commitment and resolve of the 400 workers. Moreover, the union said that the most important points of the discussion revolved around waged and work hours. The workers include staff that run table games, cashiers, slot attendants, security and kitchen workers.
