Atlantic City casinos lay off workers
Amid the coronavirus crisis, Atlantic City casinos had to lay off workers as the industry remains closed and finances turn red.
US.- Around 16,000 workers from Atlantic City casinos were laid off this week. This doesn’t necessarily mean they’re fired, but they will gain access to unemployment benefits.
“This is truly an unprecedented time not only for Ocean but for everyone,” said Terry Glebocki, CEO of Ocean Casino Resort, in a statement Thursday. “We are looking forward to the day when Ocean Casino Resort can reopen and welcome back our team members and guests.”
Ocean casino Resort had to shut down as well as every other commercial gaming venue in the US. That way, Atlantic City has its casinos out of business and its population, potentially, out of jobs.
“Hard Rock is committed to our team members during these unprecedented times. We’re ensuring that our communication has been open and direct,” said Joe Lupo, president of Hard Rock Atlantic City. “COVID-19 has and will continue to have a tremendous financial impact on our team and business. It will result in incredibly difficult decisions made now and in the future.”
Other Atlantic City casinos that laid off personnel are the properties of Caesar Entertainment Corporation. The Bally’s Atlantic City, Caesars Atlantic City and Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City all announced temporary layoffs amid the crisis.
The COVID-19 is not only taking lives but will also have a deep impact on the economy. That’s why casinos are getting ready to fasten their seat belts and go on a bumpy ride.
