Thai government blocks 1,202 gambling websites
An official warning has been issued to internet service providers and phone operators.
Thailand.- The Thai government has told internet service providers and cell phone operators to block access to 1,202 gambling sites.
Online betting is illegal in Thailand and the government has warned communications providers will be subject to legal action if they fail to block access to sites.
Services providers have 15 days to comply will risk legal action under the Computer Crimes Act and the Gambling Act.
Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri told to Xinhua Agency that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had instructed the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, and the police to take the necessary measures if they find communications providers failed to block the gambling portals.
