Alabama Senator faces lawsuit over gambling bill
Three organisations claim the Senator who promoted the gambling bill is taking money from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
US.- Three non-profit organisations have sued Senator Del Marsh of Alabama because of his promotion of the gambling bill that is currently making its way through the state legislature.
According to a report from NBC, the ONGs Age With Dignity, OIC Dream Greene County and Dream County claim that the Republican senator is taking money from the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Marsh denied the claims and said his legislative power was “not for sale”.
He told local press: “I’ve never, ever insinuated to anyone that I will cast a vote for money. That’s a flat-out lie.”
A representative of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians also dismissed the allegations.
The lawsuit also claims that the bill creates an illegal monopoly with the tribe.
Under the proposed legislation, changes would be put to a vote this November to let citizens decide if the state should amend its constitution to allow the creation of a lottery, legal sports betting and five casinos.
