US gambling revenue for April was 25 per cent higher than pre-pandemic levels thanks to the growth in sports betting.

US.- The American Gaming Association (AGA) has revealed commercial revenue figures for April showing more than a 25 per cent increase in revenue from April 2019.

Total revenue for casino games and sports betting exceeded $4.3bn. That makes April the second most profitable month in history.

The growth of sports betting boosted commercial gaming revenue in April to pre-pandemic levels and beyond. Commercial sports betting generated $240.3m, nearly a four-fold increase over April 2019. Revenue from igaming reached $299.9m.

The AGA said the US vaccination programme had contributed to the positive results.

AGA President Bill Miller said: “Today’s report shows gaming’s comeback is ahead of schedule. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our industry has faced numerous challenges head-on while still reopening responsibly and providing a safe, exciting environment for customers”.
