Wynn and MGM lobby for Georgia
Steve Wynn took a step forward to boost the gaming industry in the State.
US.- Georgia will be debating its gaming laws in the following months, after major casino operators have begun lobbying for legalisation. MGM chairman and CEO Jim Murren and Steve Wynn announced their intentions to invest in Atlanta and help the the lottery-funded HOPE Scholarship program.
“This is a tremendously appealing market,” Murren said during his visit to the Rotary Club of Atlanta. The following day, Wynn Resorts Development of Las Vegas hired the Dentons law firm as its lobbying team, head of the 2017 legislative session.
An investigation revealed that the HOPE scholarship program could face financial challenges in the years ahead despite a record of US$1 billion pumped into education programs last fiscal year. The casino companies offered greater incomes with the installation of gaming centres in Atlanta. According to Murren, the majority of the revenues will come from tourist activities in the venues, such as restaurants, events and hotel reservations.
“We only go into markets where we believe we can provide a destination addition to a market,” he said. “We’re interested in the type of resorts that provide a nexus between entertainment, hospitality and gaming.”
