The World Series of Poker has been postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has swept the globe.

US.- The World Series of Poker has been postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has swept the globe.

The 51st annual event was scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, but has become unfeasible due to lockdown measures in the state of Nevada.

Planning is now underway to reschedule the event for later in the year although the exact dates and format are still to be determined.

In a statement, World Series of Poker Executive Director, Ty Stewart, said: “We are committed to running the World Series of Poker this year but need additional time to proceed on our traditional scale while prioritising guest and staff well-being.

“In the interim, official WSOP competitions are expected to be played online this summer, and we will soon announce details of an expanded series of tournaments to be played on WSOP.com and through partnership with international operators, which will allow players to chase WSOP glory from their homes.”

The planned World Series of Poker was scheduled with dozens of tournaments taking place leading to the $10,000 no-limit Hold ’em main event on July 1.

The event would have begun on May 26 at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas

However, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered the state’s casinos to remain closed until at least April 30.
